I’m Fred Yuan Feng, a sound designer exploring the boundaries of audio across animation, film, and interactive media. My work sits at the crossroads of creative storytelling and technical innovation, ranging from cinematic soundscapes to the development of custom audio software.


I view every project as an opportunity to discover how sound can better serve an experience. Currently based in Edinburgh, Scotland, I’m always looking for collaborative projects that push creative and technical boundaries.

Overwatch 2 Zero Hour

Sound Re-design & Re-Composing in Dolby Atmos

This project is a sound re-design and re-composition completed by me in August 2023, with the final mix delivered in Dolby Atmos 7.1.4. It served as the final project for the Sound Design for Visual Media program at the Shanghai Vancouver Film School (SHVFS).

This Sci-Fi Themed animation short was created in collaboration with two animation artists. I handled all sound design and original music, working closely with the team to shape the animation’s tone and rhythm.

Pixel-art Visual Novel Game

As Composer & Sound Designer

Created in just two weeks for thatgamejam, Snow Bar is a heartwarming pixel-art visual novel set in a cozy ski resort. Developed by a synergistic five-person team using the Godot engine, the game explores the beauty of human encounters. It features deeply integrated audio systems designed to harmonize perfectly with gameplay mechanics and technical constraints.

Sound Carving Space (Max Project)

An Embodied Concatenative System with Generative Corpus

Sound Carving Space” is an interactive sound system based on Max and Leap Motion. By moving their hands in three-dimensional space, participants trigger AI-generated sound particles that have been mapped using UMAP, as if sculpting sound within a timbral nebula.

 

The system combines concatenative synthesis with visual presentation, transforming the deconstruction and recomposition of sound into an intuitive bodily experience. In this exploration, participants sense the fluid interplay between sound, gesture, and image, as though they have arrived on a sonic planet where they can roam freely.
